Feline Infectious Disease Care

Keeping Your Cat Disease Free

Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) was once a fatal disease without a treatment. Thanks to recent developments, several antivirals are now available and survival rates are now > 80%.  Although there is currently no definitive test to diagnose FIP, the combination and interpretation of available tests including lab work, ultrasound, fluid analysis via thoracocentesis or abdominocentesis, FIP PCR viral testing, lymph node testing, and tissue biopsies, help to increase suspicion of the disease. At CSC, treatment is based on the most up-to-date recommendations and drug options available. Because there have been several recent developments that influence how our specialist treats FIP, we have had many success stories of cats that may have otherwise succumbed to this disease.

Professional Cat Infectious Disease Care

Part of routine screening at CSC based on age and lifestyle includes Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), Feline Leukemia Virus, and Heartworm. If diagnosed, our team has the experience to manage these diseases for the best long term outcome.

Why is Infectious Disease Care so important?

Environmental organisms including Toxoplasmosis, Tritrichomonas, Giardia and Histoplasmosis can be challenging to diagnosis. Often their clinical signs mimic those of other more common diseases. Our team at the CSC is experienced in the identification, diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.
