We love kittens! Getting pet parents off to a good start with a new kitten is incredibly important to us at the Cat Specialty Center. Our structured, educational visits discuss everything you need to know about introducing your new kitten to housemates, FIV/FELV viral testing, spay and neuter procedures, basic behavioral issues and claw counseling (alternatives to declawing), feeding and diet, environmental enrichment at home, common toxicities to watch for, carrier training, pet insurance, genetic testing, proper handling and play, and what to expect as they grow. Our doctors will make vaccination and deworming recommendations based on your cat’s age, lifestyle and risk factors. Every vaccine protocol is customized to every patient. Flea, tick and heartworm preventatives will also be discussed.
For young patients who require more advanced care are also welcome. At the CSC we specialize in the testing and care of cats with inherited genetic diseases (including MDR1 mutations, Ragdoll HCM, Maine Coon HCM, Bengal progressive retinal atrophy, hemophilia, hypothyroidism, polycystic kidney disease, dwarfism) and perform procedures to correct cryptorchidism and umbilical hernias.
We also have years of experience with many purebred cats and understand the different needs of different breeds including Maine Coons, Ragdolls, Ragamuffins, Sphinx, Rex breeds, British shorthairs, Persians, Himalayans, Russian Blues, and more.
